MEMS alert system assists campus emergency preparedness

In recognition of National Emergency Preparedness Month in September, Paradise Valley Community College reminds students and employees that the Maricopa Community Colleges have developed an alert system for notification about emergency situations on campus, including instructions for what to do in the event of an emergency affecting the health and safety of the PVCC community.

An emergency is any immediate threat to life and/or property that requires immediate response from police, fire or ambulance personnel. In the event of an emergency, the most up to date information will be found through the Maricopa Emergency Management System (MEMS) at www.maricopa.edu/mems. The MEMS website also provides weather alerts and National Threat Advisories from the Department of Homeland Security. It is important to keep your contact information updated in my.maricopa, edu – especially mobile devices and e-mail addresses.

MEMS sends PVCC students and employees emergency notifications through various means, including text message, email notification, college and district websites and Twitter@Maricopa alerts. In addition to person-to-person directives from Public Safety, there may be audible alerts, such as loudspeaker, bullhorn or sirens may be used, as well as visual alerts such as flashing strobes and electronic message boards.  To view evacuation locations on campus, an online emergency map is available on the PVCC Public Safety website at www.pvc.maricopa.edu/safety.

In case of emergency on campus, first call 77911 from any campus telephone or 602-787-7911 from cell phones or other off-campus phones. The MEMS website also provides online information about what to do in the following situations:
