CPA Gallery art exhibits explore existence and cultural identity

Be sure to visit the Center for the Performing Arts Gallery, located on the Northeast side of campus, to visit photographer Takara Portis’ exhibit “BlackOut: A re-examination of my existence as a child.”

Portis explores what would these pictures become if the little girl were completely cut away from the photograph, leaving behind only a black hole. By doing this, these silhouettes take on a separate life of their own. “BlackOut” will be exhibited until Thursday, Aug. 23.

Starting Aug. 24, the Gallery will display “Drawings by Saskia Jorda & Joseph Podlesnik.” Jorda uses food to relate cultural identity and Podlesnik creates drawings based on the observation and memory of others.

Jorda and Podlesnik’s work will be on exhibit until Sept. 28. The Artist Reception is 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 in the CPA Gallery.

The CPA Gallery is free, and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
