The Paradise Valley Community College men’s soccer team heads into its 2012-2013 season with nine returning players under coaching staff Boris Teoharevic, Jonathan Sang, Milos Tomic and Adam Chrestman.
Pumas Jon Simic, Manny Cabral, Dejan Susak and Andrew Bravo are leading the way for 22 new teammates, including goalkeeper “Mo” Aguirre and offensive weapon Vlad Kalinteev. Other new players expected to make a heavy contributions to the team are Steven Lucero (D), Kollie Gbangorzizi (MF), Alberto Camacho (MF), Ruben Soriano (D), David Barragan (MF), Michael Fallon (MF), Dennis Voia-Tipei (MF), Edson Moreno (F) and Justin Tabor (D).
“We are a team to beat this year, the only team that can beat us is ourselves,” said Coach Teoharevic. ” This team is young and hungry and ready to prove themselves on the big stage.”
The Pumas got a great start in its first game of the season with a 5-0 win over the South Mountain Cougars with three players finding the back of the net. The Pumas were awarded four penalty kicks during the game: Susak scored three and Simic scored one. Emmanuel Conde finished with an assist from Edson Moreno. Aguirre played 90 minutes in goal. Aguirre made two saves and received the first shut out of the season.
“It was a good start for the 2012 PVCC Men’s Program, but this is just the start of the season and many things will need to improve in order for us to stay competitive for the league title,” said Teoharevic.
