PVCC soccer teams give winning performances

Puma Women have 11-0 record after shutting out MCC Thunderbirds
The women’s soccer team at Paradise Valley Community College shut out the Mesa Community College Thunderbirds 5-0 on Sept. 29, improving their record to 11-0 for the season.  Tianna Stewart scored the first goal in the first half, followed by a shot by Ali Doller blasted from a lay off from Cassie Beckwith.

“This was a solid performance from our ladies. We have a big week coming up with three games. This will be a new challenge for our team,” said Coach Kacey Bingham.

For the Pumas’ third goal, Doller assisted a long bomb by Jess DeLeon. Marisa Villaverde then served a ball to DeLeon who slotted the ball past the keeper. The fifth goal was by Erin Turner, who finished off an assist from Ashley Johnson. PVCC recorded 22 shots on goal to MCC’s two. Tessa Hamberlin played the first half in goal for the Pumas and Rachel Cardwell finished the game with two saves.

 

Puma Men on winning streak: Kalinteev nets game winner in OT
The men’s soccer team extended their winning streak to three games after a comeback victory against Mesa Community College on Sept. 29. The Pumas were down 1-0 at half time, then gave up a goal in the first few minutes of the second half. This placed PVCC down 2-0 with approximately 35 minutes left.

Dennis Voia-Tipei put the load on his shoulders and quickly netted two goals to equalize the game at 2-2, sending it into overtime. Vlad Kalinteev received an excellent pass from captain Manny Cabral, and Kalinteev put it in the back of the net. This places the Pumas in 7th place with a record of 5-6-1.
